Part 2 – The Truth That Waited Five Years –

He reached for his phone.

His attorney answered immediately.

“Harrison?”

“I need every document from my divorce.”

“Tonight?”

“Yes.”

“And Harrison…”

“What?”

His voice cracked.

“I also need to know whether Chloe ever tried contacting me after we separated.”

There was a long pause.

His attorney spoke carefully.

“There… may have been correspondence.”

“What kind of correspondence?”

“Letters.”

“I never received any letters.”

“They were reviewed by legal counsel before reaching you.”

Harrison’s stomach dropped.

“What did they say?”

“I don’t remember.”

“I do.”

The attorney’s voice grew quieter.

“She repeatedly requested a private meeting.”

Harrison closed his eyes.

“And?”

“We advised against it.”

“Why?”

“At the time… we believed she intended to negotiate a larger settlement.”

“She never wanted the settlement.”

“No.”

“She signed everything without changing a single clause.”

Another painful silence.

Finally the attorney admitted something he had hidden for five years.

“She left one handwritten note with the final documents.”

Harrison gripped the edge of the desk.

“What note?”

The answer came softly.

“She wrote… ‘One day you’ll realize what you refused to hear. I only hope it isn’t too late.’”

Harrison slowly lowered the phone.

For five years, he had believed Chloe walked away because she was guilty.

Now, piece by piece, he was discovering that every wall between them had been built by people he trusted…

…and by his own refusal to listen.

Meanwhile, across the city, I tucked three sleepy little boys into bed.

As I kissed each forehead goodnight, none of them knew their father was finally searching for the truth.

But I did.

Because my phone lit up just before midnight.

One new voicemail.

From Harrison Sterling.

I didn’t press play.

Not yet.
