The Trial Walsh Had Been Following
Lindsay Clancy is a Massachusetts mother and former labor-and-delivery nurse who was charged in the January 2023 deaths of her three children at the family’s home in Duxbury.
Her children were Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, who was an infant. Clancy pleaded not guilty to three murder charges, while her defense argued that she had been suffering from postpartum depression and psychosis and was not criminally responsible.
The central question in Clancy’s case concerned her legal responsibility given her mental condition at the time. Prosecutors rejected the defense argument and said the evidence showed she understood what she was doing.

The five-week trial included testimony from more than 80 witnesses and attracted national attention.
By September 1, the jury had already been deliberating for days and had reported that it remained deadlocked. Three days later, on September 4, the judge declared a mistrial after seven days of deliberations.
For the Walsh case, however, the more immediate detail was what prosecutors say she was doing while the proceedings were still unfolding.

Walsh was allegedly discussing the Clancy case with friends until approximately 12:30 p.m. on September 1, about three and a half hours before the scene inside her home was discovered.
The timeline cited in reporting on the court filing says Walsh had been actively discussing the case through a group text with friends.
The conversation had not happened several days earlier or even the night before. It had continued into the same afternoon.

Walsh “had been actively discussing the case via group text message with her friends” until just hours before the discovery was made inside her home.
The Clancy trial was explicitly identified as the case Walsh had been following, making the group chat part of the documented timeline from that afternoon.
